A random thought...

One of the arguments used by our minister of culture, Trond Giske, against the separation of church and state - something most developed countries have done decades or centuries ago - is that the mainstream Christian church might become less inclusive - in particular on the subject of homosexual priests. This makes me wonder...

Why would a homosexual want to preach a religion whose holy writings explicitly command that he be murdered?

Just a thought.

Does it really explicit stand in the Bible that homosexuals are to be murdered?

I would relly like a quotation of that.

Yes, certainly.

"If a man lies with a male as with a women, both of them shall be put to death for their abominable deed; they have forfeited their lives." (Leviticus 20:13 NAB)

I thought I'd post what I said on IRC;

I don't know about the specific texts in the bible about homosexuality, but never the less the bible contains lots of lots of (other kinds of) horrible texts, but people still follow it, it's just a matter of how to interpret it, and there are certainly many ways to do that.
And some chose to only take the new testament in regard, etcetra..

And there is the part with religion is that you often don't deliberately pick or go away from one, you believe in it because you *believe*, possibly because you were raised that way, or some other reasons. Religions are not an easy matter to join or leave.

Firstly: Jesus, in the New Testament, explicitly invokes the Old Testament on several occasions - including some of the more tasteless parts, like murdering disobedient children. You cannot brush away the O.T., period. It is a holy writing in the Christian church. It is a part of the Holy Bible.

Secondly, please do note that I was not talking about religion as a personal conviction. Though I do have my objections to that in itself - which I believe I should elaborate on in in a later post - I was talking about choosing it as a paid profession - which is quite a different thing!

The reason homosexuals want to is that religion is the irrational belief in a superior being motivated by primitive fear, ego, and the drive ot seek comfort and security in a group. Once people, including homosexuals, give in to those primal urges and through out rationality, logic, and science, what's one more fit of ignorance concerning death threats?
